AHANA HOSPITALS

Find the Right Care

You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis. Start with what has changed, and we will help identify an appropriate next step.

Urgent concerns should not wait for routine guidance

If there is immediate danger, a suicide attempt or plan, overdose, severe confusion, rapidly worsening psychosis or mania, or the person cannot remain safe, seek emergency help now.

View urgent help

Start with the problem not the service name

Mental-health symptoms often overlap. Poor sleep, low mood, worry, unusual behaviour, substance use and difficulty functioning can have several possible causes. The safest pathway begins with an assessment of what changed, how long it has been happening, how daily life is affected and whether there are immediate risks.

Choose the description closest to your need

These starting points are guides rather than diagnoses. The clinical team may recommend a different service after assessment.

I need a planned consultation

Consider Outpatient Care or Adult Psychiatry for assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning or follow-up.

A child or teenager needs help

Child & Adolescent Psychiatry considers development, family, school, behaviour, emotions and safety.

Symptoms are severe or unsafe

Emergency Mental Health Care or Inpatient Care may be appropriate when safety or functioning cannot be maintained.

Alcohol or drug use is a concern

De-addiction Treatment can assess withdrawal risk, health, motivation and continuing recovery needs.

What to expect

When you contact the team, share enough information to identify urgency and the appropriate clinician. You do not need to provide a complete history before booking.

01

Tell us what changed

Describe the main symptom, behaviour or difficulty and when it began.

02

Explain the impact

Mention effects on sleep, eating, self-care, relationships, work, school or safety.

03

Share urgent risks

Say clearly if there are suicidal thoughts, aggression, overdose, severe withdrawal, confusion or inability to remain safe.

04

Receive pathway guidance

The team can suggest a clinic, urgent assessment, remote consultation or another appropriate service.

Ahana service pathways

Care may move between services as needs change. A person can begin in one pathway and later require therapy, inpatient treatment, family support or rehabilitation.

Outpatient Care

Planned assessment, treatment and follow-up without hospital admission.

Inpatient Care

Round-the-clock support when symptoms, risks or treatment needs cannot be managed safely at home.

Telepsychiatry

Remote assessment or follow-up for selected people when online care is clinically suitable.

If you are seeking help for someone else

Describe specific changes rather than trying to prove a diagnosis. Share safety concerns directly, including threats, attempts, severe withdrawal, unusual experiences or inability to care for basic needs. Respect the person’s dignity and privacy, but do not keep serious risk secret from clinicians.

Frequently asked questions

1. Do I need a referral?

Requirements vary by service. Contact Ahana Hospitals and the team can explain the appropriate booking process.

That is common. Describe what has changed and how it affects everyday life.

Either can be a starting point, but significant risk, severe symptoms, diagnostic uncertainty or possible medication needs may make psychiatric assessment useful.

You can seek guidance, but consent and participation requirements depend on age, capacity, urgency and the type of appointment.

When symptoms, risks or treatment needs cannot be managed safely through outpatient or home support.

Sometimes. Suitability depends on symptoms, risk, location, privacy, technology and whether examination is needed.
