Our editorial standard

Health information should distinguish established evidence from professional opinion, link important claims to authoritative sources, use accessible language and state material limitations. Clinical content should identify its reviewer and review date after formal sign-off.

What articles cannot do

An article cannot diagnose an individual, assess risk, choose a medicine or replace a clinical consultation. Symptoms that are severe, persistent, rapidly worsening or associated with safety concerns require professional assessment.

For urgent concerns

Do not wait for an online article when there is immediate risk of suicide, self-harm or violence; severe confusion or agitation; suspected overdose; dangerous withdrawal; or sudden behavioural change suggesting a medical emergency.
